Cathedral of Saint-Pierre, Angoulême

The most extensively planned façade in Romanesque art is on the cathedral of Saint-Pierre, Angoulême. It was produced between 1115 and 1136 under Bishop Girard II, and expounded a complicated iconographical program that was probably conceived during two different periods, dividing into the ground floor with the portal tympanum and the high arcades, and the upper floor with the with the central area and angels.

The picture shows the central arcade in the upper floor of the west façade.
