North portal of west façade

c. 1210
Stone
Notre-Dame, Paris

The portal to the left of the central portal on the west front of the Notre-Dame shows the Coronation of the Virgin in the tympanum. It was seriously damaged in the French Revolution, though later carefully restored.

Above the trumeau with the standing figure of the Virgin, the Tabernacle and the Ark of the Covenant are shown, flanked by seated patriarchs and kings. Above the Ark is the scene with the raising of the Virgin's body, and in the apex of the tympanum her coronation is shown.

The picture shows the north portal on the west façade with the Coronation of the Virgin.
