Portal de la Calende

1300-10
Stone
Cathedral of Notre-Dame, Rouen (Seine-Maritime)

The two transept portals of Rouen Cathedral were executed during the first decade of the 14th century. The portal thought to be the later one is on the south side, on the Place de la Calende, and has borne the name of that square since at least the 15th century.

The three registers of the tympanum show the Passion of Christ. On the trumeau Christ, and in the jambs the Apostles, stand on distinctive pedestals which bear bas-reliefs with cycles from the Old Testament.
