The altarpiece was executed for the Chartreuse de Champmol near Dijon. It was carved for Philippe le Hardi by a Flemish sculptor, Jacques de Baerze and gilded by Melchior Broederlem.
The picture shows a detail of the right-hand wing of the altarpiece. The saints are St Anthony, St Margaret, a royal saint and St Barbara.
