The Codex Sangallensis 1395 in the Stiftsbibliothek of the Abbey of St. Gall is a nineteenth-century compilation of fragments. The picture shows the only surviving leaf (page 418) from a lost Irish Gospel Book from the eight or ninth century. It represents the miniature of St Matthew. On the verso of the leaf are magical charms written partly in Old Irish.
