The picture shows folio 1r of the manuscript. It contains one of the wonderfully decorated canon tables. The angel, lion, bull and eagle symbolise the four evangelists and serve to identify, by their position within the arch, the canon tables beneath them. There are usually 16 such diagrams at the beginnings of almost all early medieval gospels.
