Salaberga Psalter

c. 780
Manuscript (Ms. Hamilton 553)
Staatsbibliothek, Berlin

This manuscript derives its name from its association with the monastery of Saint-Jean de Laon, founded by Salaberga (died 665), who was its first abbess. There is no evidence, however, that the manuscript originated there, and the textual evidence of the psalms suggests rather an association with the so-called 'Anglo-Saxon' family of manuscripts.

The Psalter is an example of the Irish codex style. The picture shows the decorated title page.
