This Psalter was probably made in the Palace School of Charles the Bald at Saint-Denis for Charles the Bald (died 877), the grandson of Charlemagne, king of France from 840 and emperor from 875. It contains 173 folios with psalms, canticles and hymns.
On folio 3v of the manuscript Charles the Bald is shown on his jewel-studdded throne.
