Sakramentar von Metz

Manuscript (Ms. lat. 1141), 270 x 210 mm
Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris

This fragment of a sacramentary (only 17 folios) was produced probably in the palace school of Charles the Bald, although formerly it was thought to originate from Saint-Denis or Corbie. Until the 17th century it was preserved in the treasury of cathedral Saint-Etienne in Metz.

The fragment contains six full-page miniatures of which the picture shows that on folio 2v representing the coronation of Charlemagne standing between Popes Gelasius I and Gregory I.
