This manuscript, written in the 1160s in Pisa, contains illuminations executed in a style typical of the school of Reichenau at the beginning of the 11th century. The possible explanation is that the miniaturist (Italian or perhaps German) had seen a Reichenau school prototype which he used as a model.
The Gospels are interspersed with full-page initials, portraits of the Evangelists and a painting of the Ascension.
Folio 30v contains the portrait of Matthew.
