This manuscript is a de luxe presentation copy of the poem by Petrus de Ebulo (Peter of Eboli), illuminated with fifty-three full-page colour illustrations of the story told. It may well have been the copy intended for presentation to the emperor himself, certainly the handwriting is that of the end of the twelfth century.
The miniature on folio 98r depicts the imperial court at Palermo, showing the Palatine chapel and the various people who lived in different quarters of the city.
