Manuscript (MS M.710), vellum, 293 x 204 mm

The picture shows folio 89r. It contains a half-page miniature depicting "St Helena interviewing and threatening Judas and Jews".

In medieval Christian tradition, notably recorded in The Golden Legend, Empress Saint Helena interrogated and threatened a Jewish man named Judas in Jerusalem circa 326 CE to discover the hidden location of the True Cross. When local Jewish leaders initially kept the secret, Helena confined Judas to a dry well without food or water until he capitulated.

The folio contains embroidered repairs.
