This de luxe manuscript was created in southern England, in the diocese of Chichester. It includes twenty-four full-page miniatures illustrating episodes from the lives of Mary, Jesus, and various saints. In addition to the miniatures, there are numerous historiated initials with biblical scenes concerning David and Solomon, as well as other simpler initials decorated with geometrical motifs.
The miniature shown here (on folio 21v) represents the Flight into Egypt. The illuminator of the codex used copious amounts of gold and favoured red-purple and blue tones.
