Douce Apocalypse

c. 1272
Manuscript (Ms. Douce 180), 311 x 203 mm (folio size)
Bodleian Library, Oxford

The manuscript serves up its apocalyptic fare in a sophisticated courtly style that might be considered more appropriate to a romance of chivalry.

In the miniature on folio 5v, in elegant postures and with their physiognomies finely stylised, we see the trumpeting angels of chapter 8 of Revelation.
