The Frenchman Hugo of Fouilloy was active in the middle of the twelfth century. In his Bestiary, he created a series of images depicting monstrous creatures, half man, half beast. There are headless creatures with eyes set in their shoulders and faces growing out of their chests, followed by creatures with gigantic tusks protruding from their bodies.
