The Códice Rico contains 195 cantigas (200 originally) and is the first of the four preserved Cantigas manuscripts in which text, music, and image are combined. This manuscript stands out from among this group through its exceptionally impressive decoration.
The picture shows folio 50v, containing in a single column sheet music for cantiga XXXV with a large initial O. The text of the cantiga begins below the sheet; the repeated refrains are highlighted in red ink. The text continues on the next three folios (51r, 51v and 52r), followed by two folios (52v and 53r) containing full-page miniatures illustrating the cantiga. This group of folios well represents the codex's structure.
