The Códice Rico contains 195 cantigas (200 originally) and is the first of the four preserved Cantigas manuscripts in which text, music, and image are combined. This manuscript stands out from among this group through its exceptionally impressive decoration.
The picture shows a full-page miniature on folio 53r. This and the miniature on folio 52v illustrate cantiga XXXV. They depict a historical event when a relic is saved through the miracle of the Virgin Mary.
