The Códice Rico contains 195 cantigas (200 originally) and is the first of the four preserved Cantigas manuscripts in which text, music, and image are combined. This manuscript stands out from among this group through its exceptionally impressive decoration.
The picture shows folio 198v. In two columns, it contains sheet music and text with a large initial O for cantiga CXLII. In the text, the repeated refrains are highlighted in red ink.
