The Luttrell Psalter, an English 14th-century parchment codex, contains a Psalter with calendar and some additional material. Its 309 folios are richly decorated.
Surprisingly, we can encounter a vast amount of bizarre, grotesque and often apparently subversive imagery at the margins of devotional manuscripts, the capitals of churches and cloisters and the undersides of choir stalls. The present image shows folio 195v of the Luttrell Psalter. On the bottom margin a hybrid monster is depicted.
