The miniature on folio 52v of this early 14th-century vellum codex depicts the capture of Jerusalem in July 1099. In the foreground the battle is at its height, with armoured knights scaling ladders. The assault is being led by Godfrey of Bouillon and the knights of Lorraine.
In the background the Passion of Christ is revealed in the Betrayal, Flagellation, Carrying the Cross and Entombment.
