Benoît de Sainte Maure, a French twelfth-century poet, was probably a vassal of King Henry II. His most famous work is the Roman de Troie, written between 1160 and 1165. It draws on Latin works but its style is very personal.
The text of the manuscript is laid out in two columns and there are miniatures on almost every page. The scenes on folio 21v, shown here, depicts the embassy of Antenor to Greece.
