This codex contains the Italian translation (from Latin) of the medicinal-botany book entitled The Book of Simple Medicaments. The book is dated 12th or 13th century, and was written by Sarapion the Younger. The original language was probably Arabic (or perhaps Hebrew). The Carrara Herbal contains numerous miniatures of plants in colour.
Folio 33v contains a miniature of vines.
