This manuscript contains a compendium of history from the Creation to Roman times, written in a version of French mixed with Venetian terms. Both Gonzaga and Visconti devices are found in the manuscript, therefore it is thought to have been produced between the marriage of Francesco I Gonzaga and Agnese Visconti in 1380 and the killing of Agnese, accused of infidelity, in 1391.
The decoration of the codex was the work of two illuminator, one of them executing most of the manuscript. The miniature on folio 190v, illustrated here, shows the composition typical for this artist: an arrangement in four small squares per page.
