This illustrated copy of the knightly romance, Legend of Guiron le Courtois, was commissioned by Bernabò Visconti. Folio 2v depicts the mysterious helmeted knight, known as Fieramonte, at the court of Artù.
Courtly romances, which were usually written in French, were popular at north Italian courts well into the fifteenth century.
