Carmelite Missal

c. 1395
Manuscript (Additional Ms. 29704)
British Library, London

The dedication of a church is shown in this miniature on folio 68v from the Carmelite Missal illuminated in London in the late fourteenth century. As a procession walks chanting around the outside of the building, a bishop sprinkles the church with holy water in order to drive out the devil, who can be seen leaping from the roof.
