Wenceslas IV, King of Bohemia (1361-1419) was a collector of illustrated manuscripts. Unfortunately, only a few of the manuscripts in his library survived. One outstanding example is the Wenceslas Bible, which, despite being unfinished is a work of monumental scope: 1176 illuminated folios in 6 volumes. Common to all of Wenceslas's books is the dominance of border decoration.
On folio 2v, the initial letter of Genesis stretches along the full length of the page. The medallions within the body of the letter depict God working on the Creation and the seventh day of rest.
