In 1473, Sébastien Mamerot, singer and canon in Saint-Étienne de Troyes, compiled all accounts of the French crusading expeditions, which since the time of Charlemagne were aimed at regaining the Holy Land from Muslim rule. The present codex contains Mamerot's text, and the 64 illustrating miniatures are thought to be the work of the famous illuminator Jean Colombe (c. 1430-c. 1493). Numerous collaborator assisted him in this task, among them a certain Jean de Montluçon (active 1461-1505).
The miniature on folio 176v depicts Baldwin IV being anointed within a Gothic church. At the age of 13 he was elected King of Jerusalem in 1174. This miniature is probably the work of Jean de Montluçon.
