The author of the text is Anicius Manlius Severinus Boethius (c. 480-c. 525), a statesman, philosopher and eminent scholar. This text appears in numerous illuminated manuscripts during the late Middle Ages.
The miniature on folio 13v depicts the scene when Jean de Meng, the translator of Boethius' work (written in prison in the 5th-6th centuries) offers the work to Margaret of England.
The style of the miniature is close to that of the Master of Mary Burgundy.
