Gradual

The picture shows the Introit for the Mass on the feast of the Assumption of the Virgin from a Gradual illuminated probably in Bruges in the late fifteenth century. In the miniature at top left the Virgin Mary ascends to heaven, attended by angels. Around the edges are scenes from her death and funeral.
