This manuscript, the Ordinal of Alchemy, was written, in verse, by Thomas Norton, of Bristol (1433-1513). It contains the first five chapters of the work with a frontispiece and four other picture. It is one of the late-fifteenth-century instances of a vernacular text planned with full miniatures.
The present miniature on folio 37r depicts four great alchemists (Geber, Arnold, Rhasis and Hermes Trismegistus) presiding over workers who are carrying out various alchemical processes.
