The manuscript was copied in two phases: between 1457 and 1460 (ff. 6r-162r), and between c. 1516 and 1527 ff. 163r-211v). The picture shows the miniature on folio 30v representing Fortune's wheel. symbolizing that earthly power is transitory and precarious. A king sits enthroned at the top, but he can easily descend (on the right) to the depths, just as the humble can rise. At the centre sits Fortune, or Luck, impassively turning her wheel.
