The miniature on folio 90 of the 15th-century English manuscript depicts pilgrims at an inn. In the long, uncomfortable, and often dangerous journeys to the popular shrines in the Middle Ages, there was also an element of pleasure, the camaraderie of the road and the adventure of seeing foreign lands.
