San Giovanni Evangelista, Ravenna

The church of San Giovanni Evangelista in Ravenna was built by Galla Placidia (388-450), daughter of Emperor Theodosius the Great. The church has a nave and two aisles divided by columns. In the 14th century it was rebuilt in the Gothic style. Bombed during World War II, it was later restored.

The photo shows the restored interior, stripped of its mosaics.
