The former collegiate church of St. Georg is late-Carolingian and Ottonian in style. A notable feature of the Ottonian period is the predilection for flat walls. The walls are as uninterrupted as possible by features such as openings and windows. The spaces were clearly delineated and the surfaces sparingly articulated. The most important decorative feature was the different layers on all the arches in the church.
