Abbey church, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk

Abbot Baldwin of St. Denis (1065-1097) planned an abbey church near the grave of St. Edmund (d. 870, the last king of East Anglia. The project to build the church in Bury St Edmunds started soon after 1081 and the entire complex was finished by 1100.

The church has now only some informative ruins from which it is possible to make out the ground plan. The photo shows the tower above the entrance hall.
