In the last decade of the eleventh century, work was started on some Cluniac monastery churches, as well as the cathedrals. An example is the priory church in Castle Acre, Norfolk, which was begun soon after the priory's foundation in 1089 by William I of Warenne. Six bays of the nave and side aisles, and the façade (middle of the twelfth century) with its typically English sequences of blind arches, still stand.
