Monastery Sant Pere de Rodes, El Port de la Selva (Gerona)

The Monastery Sant Pere de Rodes, consecrated in 1022, is situated in an impressive setting high above the sea. It is in a state of ruin today, but it has retained much of its original character. Beyond its projecting transept arms, the three-aisled church has an ambulatory flanked by chapels. The very high side aisles with their barrel vaults prop the vault of the central nave which is supported on strong transverse arches. These, in turn, spring from projecting columns located one above the other on double rows of very high plinths.

The photo shows projecting columns mounted on high plinth.
