The two most important cathedrals in Norway are in Trondheim (begun 1070) and Stavanger (begun c. 1130). Both owe much to English architecture. The flattened choir of the Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim, which is the longest church in Scandinavia (106 meters), is connected to an octagon containing the grave of St. Olaf (d. 1030); it is reminiscent of the rotunda at the top of the choir in Canterbury Cathedral.
