The Basel Cathedral was rebuilt after a fire in 1185. In this church galleries have been inserted between the arcade level and the clerestory. Each gallery has three arcades resting on a pair of colonnettes, each contained within a flat round-arched recess.
The galleries of Basel cathedral influenced the cathedrals in Strasbourg and Freiburg.
