The monastery of Sainte-Marie-Madeleine was founded in 858. In 1104 the eastern part of the Carolingian structure was replaced with a new structure, followed in 1120 by the nave which still stands today.
In the nave cross-shaped piers with engaged columns on all four sides carry the underarch supports of the arcades and the transverse arches of the vaulting. The church is groin-vaulted in both the nave and the aisles. Because of the bigger windows the interior is considerably brighter than with barrel vaulted naves.
