The photo shows a view of the west façade of the cathedral, the campanile and the baptistery.
This ensemble consisting of the cathedral, campanile and baptistery was not built at the same time. Construction work on the cathedral started c. 1090 and was completed by 1130. In 1170 it was vaulted. Benedetto Antelami directed the building of the baptistery between 1196 and 1216. Finally, the campanile was built between 1284 and 1296.
