Lausanne Cathedral (begun 1160s) is the oldest Gothic cathedral outside France after Canterbury. The painting of the interior, still largely preserved, gives Lausanne Cathedral a special space in the study of Gothic architecture.
The Cathedral dominates the cityscape of Lausanne. The main architect of the Cathedral - the largest and generally acclaimed as the Switzerland's finest Gothic building - was Jean de Cotereel.
