The collegiate church of St. George (now the cathedral) in Limburg an der Lahn had been begun in 1215 and consecrated in 1235, but not completed until the middle of the century. The design was inspired by the early French Gothic style at Laon. Of particular note is the charming landscape setting on a rocky outcrop which was used to maximize the striking impact of this church with its multiple towers.
