Interior view

The Franciscan church of San Lorenzo in Vicenza was built in the years following 1281. The prototype for the interior was supplied by the quiet Lombard forms of Santa Corona in Vicenza, founded in 1261. It has a pleasantly proportioned and still restful nave in which the concentration on the altar is undisturbed by the sense of spaciousness to either side. The wooden tie-beams are an integral feature of the design, as also is the relative drama of the transept which extends beyond the aisles and runs the full height of the nave.
