Massa Marittima Cathedral (Duomo di Massa Marittima; Cattedrale di San Cerbone) is dedicated to St Cerbonius (died 575 AD), whose tomb by Goro di Gregorio is in the cathedral.

The interior has a basilica plan with an apse and two aisles, divided by cylindrical columns and cruciform pilasters which end in complex composite capitals. The polygonal choir, which an inscription probably indicates as being finished in 1304, is certainly the work of an unusually sensitive architect. The three-bay extension is so organized as to create a smooth transition from a fully Romanesque nave to a clearly Gothic choir. The simplicity, severity, and weight of the latter are such that in spite of the change of idiom, no conflict is aroused. The steady movement towards an increasing, but always carefully restrained, Gothicism seems to indicate an attitude that differs from the normal medieval approach to architectural additions in which the new and old could be set side by side with no attempt to smooth away stylistic contrasts by a gradual transition.
