Cistercian church, Doberan

Until well into the 15th century the Marienkirche of Lübeck was imitated many times along the Baltic coast. The Cistercian church in Doberan, near Rostock, was one of such churches. Its ground plan has a pseudo-transept and, due to the rule of the Cistercian order, there is no tower.

The polychrome character often determined the interior and the exterior of north European buildings. The church in Doberan is an example.
