In the last quarter of the 14th century the Perpendicular Style was used for the first and last time in the architecture of great cathedrals. New naves were built in Canterbury and Winchester. The one at Canterbury, built between about 1375 to 1405, was probably designed by the court's master builder, Henry Yevele, one of the most active and successful architects of his time. The most striking feature of this nave is verticality. The arcades are particularly tall, the piers slender. The arcade arches are very narrow.
