Castle chapel, Riom (Puy-de-Dôme)

The prestige of the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris, constructed by St. Louis, led to some patrons having such a chapel built in their castles or palaces. Duke Jean de Berry also had a Sainte-Chapelle built on the Parisian model in his Auvergne residence of Riom; work on it began in 1395 and c. 1416. It consists of only an upper story; in other words it dispenses with the vaulted lower chapel. All the windows show forms of Late Gothic. The stained glass was provided at about 1450.

The photo shows the interior of the chapel.
