Fachwerkkirche, Stumpertenrod (Hesse)

Half-timber work is a method of building in which external and internal walls are constructed of timber frames and the spaces between the structural members are filled with such materials as brick, plaster, or wattle and daub. Churches of the half-timbered type are found in Europe in a region stretching from Holland across northern and eastern Germany. A unique concentration of half-timbered churches can be found in Hesse where these churches flourished particularly during the Baroque period.

The Fachwerkkirche in Stumpertenrod is a characteristic example of these churches.
