During the regency of Marie de' Medici many hotels were put up in Paris, particularly in the Marais of which the finest surviving examples are the Hôtel de Chalon-Luxembourg and the Hôtel de Sully.
The Hôtel de Chalon-Luxembourg, built about 1625-26, consists of a narrow building in brick and stone standing behind a court, the entrance to which is formed by a magnificent door which belongs to an earlier phase of building work. This is a fine example of the more fantastic style which was current in Paris at the period.
The photo shows the entrance portal. In spite of the inscription above the door, the correct spelling is Chalon, not Chalons.
